Cold Work Mold Steel Performance and Usage List
Cr12
Performance:
High carbon, high chromium type ledeburite steel. Has good hardenability and good wear resistance. Because the carbon mass fraction in steel can reach up to 2.30%, the steel becomes hard and brittle. So, the impact toughness is poor. Can hardly withstand large impact loads. Easily brittle and easy to form uneven eutectic carbides.
Usage:
Used to manufacture punches for cold punching dies. Those are subject to less impact load and need high wear resistance. Cold cutter blades, drill sleeves, gauges, drawing dies. stamping Mold, thread rolling boards, and screw rolling molds for cutting hard and thin metals.
Cr12MoV
Performance:
High carbon, high chromium type ledeburite steel. Has good hardenability. The cross-section size is below 400mm and can be completely hardened. And has high abrasion resistance. The volume change during quenching is small. Its carbon content is much lower than Cr12 steel. And added molybdenum and vanadium. So, the hot workability, impact toughness and carbide distribution of steel have been improved.
Uses:
Used to manufacture cold work molds with large cross-sections, complex shapes. High wear resistance requirements, and large impact loads. Such as cold cutting scissors, trimming mold. Hemming die, gauge, wire drawing die, thread rolling board, thread rolling die. Complicated punching die, steel plate deep drawing die. And cold punches and punches that need high wear resistance.
Cr5Mo1V
Performance:
Medium alloy content. Because it contains molybdenum and vanadium, the hardenability of steel is good. The carbides are evenly distributed. Has a certain impact toughness and good wear resistance.
Uses:
Used to manufacture shaping dies, drill sleeves, cold punching mold. Punches, trimming dies, stamping dies, thread rolling dies, thread rolling boards, gauges, etc.
9Mn2V
Performance:
Low-alloy tool steel with comprehensive mechanical properties better than carbon tool steel. Has high hardness and wear resistance. The hardenability is very good. The deformation is small during quenching. Because the steel contains a certain amount of vanadium, the grains are refined. Reduced overheating sensitivity. The unevenness of carbides is better than that of CrWMn steel.
Uses:
sed to manufacture various precision measuring tools, templates, and generally required smaller mold. Cold press dies, engraving dies, material dies, scissors, taps, dies and reamers, etc.
CrWMn
Performance:
Has high hardenability. Due to the addition of 1.20%-1.60% (mass fraction) tungsten, carbides are formed. So, it has certain hardness and wear resistance after quenching and low temperature tempering. Tungsten helps keep small grains. So that the steel has better toughness. The steel is more sensitive to the formation of network carbides. Moreover, this carbide mesh puts the tool blade at risk of peeling off.
Usage:
Use a wide range of cold work work steel. Used to manufacture measuring tools. Such as die, block gauge, sample column and sample sleeve, and high-precision dies with complex shapes.
9CrWMn
Performance:
Low-alloy cold-work work steel, with certain hardenability and wear resistance. Small quenching deformation, uniform carbide distribution and fine particles.
Uses:
Used to manufacture cold stamping dies with small cross-sections and complex shapes. Measuring tools such as gauges and templates.
CrW2MoV
Performance:
The new type medium alloy cold work work steel has relatively stable performance. Compared with the high alloy cold work work steel Cr12 and Cr12MoV, the service life of the die made of it is significantly improved. The eutectic carbide particles of the steel are fine. Uniformly distributed, high hardenability and hardenability, and good wear resistance and dimensional stability. The hot working temperature range of steel is relatively narrow. The deformation resistance is relatively large.
Uses:
Used to manufacture various punching dies, cold heading dies, blanking dies, drawing mold. Cold extrusion dies and threads rolling boards, etc.
6Cr4W3Mo2VNb
Performance:
High-toughness cold-work mold steel. Its chemical composition is close to the matrix composition of high-speed tool steel, and belongs to a kind of matrix steel. So, it has the high hardness and high strength of high-speed tool steel. And because the steel has no excessive carbides, it has high toughness and fatigue strength. The steel contains 0.20%-0.35% (mass fraction) of niobium. It refines the grains and increases the grain coarsening temperature. Thereby improving the toughness of the steel and improving its process performance.
Uses:
Used to manufacture cold extrusion dies, cold heading mold. Screw punches, cold punching dies, drawing dies and thread rolling boards, etc.
6W6Mo5Cr4V
Performance:
Low-carbon high-speed tool steel type. Cold work steel has good hardenability and high hardness. High wear resistance and high strength like high-speed tool steel. It also has better toughness than high-speed tool steel. characteristic. The cold extrusion die made of this steel has a longer life. Because of the high content of molybdenum in steel. Its heating temperature range is slightly narrow, and its deformation resistance is greater. This steel is easy to decarburize.
Uses:
Used to make cold extrusion die and upper and lower punches, etc.
